To: Customer Service Reps and Claims Adjusters:
How many times have you been "burned" by a technician or inspector who didn't know when to shut up?
Who spoke before knowing all the facts? Who was more interested in pursuing his/her opinion than in helping to resolve a claim? You know what I'm saying. You've all been there.
Successful claims inspecting is like detective work. It's not enough for an inspector to just look; they have to interpret. A great inspector will know how household goods are manufactured, packed, moved, repaired, and warranted. A great inspector will be able to deduce how the damage occured: is it pre-existing damage? Inherent vice? A previous repair? Normal wear-and-tear? A manufacturing defect? Or actual transit damage? I know, because I am a great inspector (humble, too). Want proof? Check out this damage claim report.
You Will Look Good.
I have been performing transit damage and retail warranty claims and repairs in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina since 1980. I've owned two retail stores, a refinishing and restoration shop, and a moving business. I know how to talk (or not talk) to customers. I know how to read between the lines. I know how to ask questions that will uncover the truth about a claim. As an experienced repairman I can compare repair costs to cash out values. As a licensed auctioneer and certified appraiser, I know the values of household goods, collectibles, art, and antiques. You will resolve your claim quickly and efficiently. You will look good to your company and your boss.
I Started This Business By Default
When I was a young man, I was a piano tuner for a major piano dealer. My boss told me that I had to learn how to retouch dents and scratches on pianos, because pianos were hard to move and they were always getting banged up. I hated it, but I couldn't get out of it so I worked hard to learn. Soon, I found I had a knack for working with finishes. A tuning customer referred me to her furniture retailer, who referred me to a moving company. It wasn't long before the referrals went "viral", and I was buried in furniture work. Along the way I learned upholstery, leather, refinishing and finish retouching.
